When considering engagement session locations in DC, most couples think of the National Mall and the surrounding monuments. Few think of DC as a waterfront destination, yet it has miles and miles of Potomac and Anacostia riverfront views.
One of the best places to see these scenic rivers is Yards Park. Once a run down area close to the Navy Yard, this 42 acre recreational area and the neighborhood has been revitalized after the Washington Nationals made it their home.
Yards Park has a popular modern wading pool with a fountain with a bridge spanning the width of it and many blocks of clean walkways close to lots of new restaurants and condominiums. You can take a break from your session at BlueJacket and grab one of their one of a kind craft brews or a quick snack at TaKorean. District Winery is one of the newest additions and is a popular wedding venue too.
As the sun sets, the views get even better and the opportunity for those golden hour portraits that every couple wants. This couple walked along the anacostia river until we found the perfect spot. We added in a little off camera flash to keep the dramatic clouds well exposed as well as the couple's faces.
