Having a back up plan for your wedding day is crucial in the Washington DC metro area. Snow in April, torrential rain in December, a sunny 70 degree afternoon in February, we've seen it all! When you are choosing a wedding venue, this is often one of the overlooked questions. What do we do if the weather doesn't cooperate?
It's very important to ask your venue what their back up plan is. If you are planning a ceremony on the hillside of a vineyard and it's rainy, what options does the venue offer for an indoor ceremony? Do you love it just as much as the indoor option? We've seen way too many couples end up with a ceremony in a dingy tent when they had imagined they would be having their ceremony under a beautiful tree with a historic Northern Virginia mansion in the background.
This couple chose this venue because they knew rain, shine, or snow, the Carnegie Institution for Science offers many indoor spaces for the ceremony AND portraits. The rotunda provides ample light for the ceremony. Dramatic staircases, alcoves, balconies, and well decorated libraries offer unique backgrounds for all your wedding day portraits. They were still able to stay dry under the covered portico for some portraits while we braved the rain to get some exterior shots.
